Tampa Microwave X Band ManPack Satellite Terminal Offers Battery Saving Feature


TAMPA, Fla. – (BUSINESS WIRE) – Tampa Microwave(TM), a veteran owned small business specializing in satellite communication systems, microwave modules, satellite link simulators and carrier monitoring equipment announced the completion of verification testing of a significant battery life improvement feature that manages the power required for its Manpack family of X, Ku and Ka band ultra portable satellite terminals.

In cooperation with iDirect Government Systems, Tampa Microwave has designed its terminals to implement a Transmitter Keyline feature. A Tampa Microwave terminal using iDirect’s V2.3 modem software disables its transmitter until commanded by the iDirect e850MP modem to send a data packet. When packet transmission is complete, the Keyline returns the amplifier to standby mode to await the next transmission. Using the Keyline extends the terminal’s battery life by a factor of at least 2x up to a maximum of 3x depending on the transmitter duty cycle.
