iDirect Ushers In New Levels Of Performance And Efficiency

New Universal Line Cards and 9-Series remotes deliver significant throughput and efficiency gains, field upgrade path to DVB-S2X

Herndon, VA, March 8, 2016 – VT iDirect, Inc. (iDirect), a company of Vision Technologies Systems, Inc. (VT Systems), today announced the release of its new Universal Line Cards (ULCs) and 9-Series portfolio of remotes. With the debut of its next-generation Line Card technology, iDirect elevates capacity and throughput levels to help service providers achieve the optimal performance and capture the exploding market opportunities of High Throughput Satellite (HTS).  iDirect is a world leader in satellite-based IP communications technology.

Compatible with both Evolution® and iDirect Velocity™ networks, the ULCs deliver impressive gains in both performance and efficiency. The new ULC-R return line card will feature aggregate symbol rates up to 30Msps, with individual carriers up to 15Msps and 16QAM MODCODs for improved efficiency. The new ULC-T transmit line card will feature a powerful combination of 32APSK MODCODs and embedded pre-distortion for optimal operation on saturated transponders.

The ULC-T also touts a software upgrade path to support DVB-S2X carriers up to 125MHz.  With support for both DVB-S2 and DVB-S2X networks, the new ULCs provide a seamless migration  for iDirect customers that leverages their existing hub investments and future proofs their networks while minimizing the need for costly dual-illumination.

Ideally suited for high-value cruise, yacht and offshore drilling and defense markets, the new 9-Series remotes initially feature up to 140Mbps of aggregate throughput performance with a path to well over 200Mbps via support for adaptive 15Msps TDMA and 30Msps with adaptive SCPC. The 9-series remotes, which come in a range of different form factors and capabilities, also offer major reductions in Size, Weight and Power (SWaP), making them ideal for Communications On The Move (COTM) applications. Sanchez: Founded in 1990, Integrasys SA is a development, engineering and integration company specializing in the telecommunication and broadcasting markets. We have been a partner with iDirect for three years, delivering our Satmotion Pocket remote commissioning solution to iDirect customers under the name the iDirect Remote Commissioning Solution.

iDirect: Talk about the growing value of a VSAT remote commissioning tool, given the increasing demand for VSAT connectivity in remote and rural regions.

Sanchez: A VSAT commissioning tool streamlines the process to point the antenna, isolate the cross polarization, minimize adjacent satellite interference, perform compression testing, and find the initial transmit power through an intuitive software interface.

Such a solution is highly valuable in setting up networks in remote regions around the world, enabling you to autonomously point and adjust antennas, streamlining the overall commissioning of remotes. This allows service providers to deploy new services quicker, and get customers up-and-running on the network at an accelerated pace with optimal performance.

iDirect: You recently started to work with a few large customers in the maritime and oil and gas (O&G) verticals. Tell us about them.

Hardware Innovations to Bring Increased Performance to Government Customers

Herndon, Va., March 7, 2016 –iDirect Government (iDirectGov), a leading provider of satellite communications to the military and government, today unveils its next generation 9-Series portfolio of remotes and defense line cards that will bring greater spectral efficiencies and enhanced performance to the company’s government customers.

Riding on the 9-Series remotes is the Evolution 3.4 software that brings the products to life. Each of the remotes within the new series features different form factors and capabilities to accommodate customer specific needs. The entire series of remotes is capable of nearly double the in-route Msps of its predecessor the 8-Series and with almost 10 times the packets per second capability.

Featuring extended frequency ranges, which allow users to access the Wideband Global Satellite (WGS) constellation, as well as High Throughput Satellites (HTS), the 9-Series supports the ability to receive multiprotocol encapsulation (MPE) broadcasts. For secure traffic, the 9-Series will support both one-way and two-way TRANSEC and be certified at FIPS140-2 Level 3.

The series consists of the 950mp, 900 and 9350. The 950mp features a reduced footprint of 33%, uses 55% less power and is 28% lighter than its predecessor the e850mp – all of which is critical in the use of man-portable terminals. The 900 and 9350 remotes include dual demodulators, which allow the remotes to support two separate data streams. Combinations of data traffic can include both two-way and one-way traffic, with one way traffic consisting of multiprotocol encapsulation (MPE) broadcasts or one-way TRANSEC. iDirect 2015 In-Focus: Layer 2 over Satellite

As 2015 comes to a close, we’ll be taking a look at some of the major announcements of this past year at iDirect, highlighting the products and campaigns that had great impact on the industry.

Today we look at the release of Layer 2 over Satellite (L2oS). In order to enable new levels of flexibility and transparency, iDirect announced the release of L2oS, a new feature set within the iDirect Evolution® platform that allows satellite to work more seamlessly with other telecommunications access technologies.

 

As an alternative to the traditional Layer 3 routing architecture, L2oS offers service providers the option to run an iDirect network in an efficient Layer 2 bridging mode, which provides enhanced transparency across the entire network. Using L2oS, service providers are simplifying deployment of satellite networks and effectively carrying IP traffic anywhere it needs to go.

Telecom providers like Verizon and BT have demonstrated how iDirect’s technology is helping them create true end-to-end networks that deliver superb performance for their own businesses as well as for their customers. For instance, BT is leveraging satellite to extend coverage to remote locations, provide business continuity, and deliver cellular backhaul.
